Expert Guarantor, Scholar and Professor at the Department of Economics
Professor Engineer of Economics Jan Široký, CSc. (candidatus scientarium) (1964) studied Economics with a specialization in Tax Theory and Practice, with an emphasis on tax incidence (burden) and its application at the Economics Faculty of the Technical University (VŠB-TU) in Ostrava and has been focussing on this topic ever since. His research results, including those he worked on in cooperation with the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic, have been published both in economics journals with impact and in educational magazines for the general public as well as being presented by him at both domestic and international conferences and seminars. He is the author of the renowned books, “ Tax Theory“ and “Taxes in the European Union.“ His name is mentioned 71 times on the Web of Science, including four times in the index.
A member of the International Institute of Public Finance and of the Czech Economics Society, he worked at the Ostrava City Hall from 2002 to 2006 as a financial analyst. In the year 2007 he was appointed to professorship in the field of finance by the President of the Czech Republic. He is a member of the Scientific Counsel of two institutions of higher learning and is also active as a member of the editorial councils of several scientific journals. He serves in expert scholarly councils governing doctoral studies at several institutions of higher education. Since the year 2014, he has been a member of the working committee for the taxing of physical persons with the Ministry of Finance.
