Professor Engineer Vladimír Smejkal CSc. (candidatus scientarium), LL.M. (Legum Magister – Master of Laws)at  the Brno University of Technology, Faculty of Business and Management, is a Professor and a member of the Scientific Council. He is also a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

As a Professor and academic scholar in the areas of Law, Economics, Management and Information Science, he specializes in the security and legal aspects of Information Technologies. As a scientific researcher he devotes himself in particular to the problematics of electronic security (IS/IT), in particularly in the area of authentication methods based on biometry.

In the years 2004–2014 he was a member of the Legislative Council of the elected government where he participated in the decision-making process regarding laws governing information science, especially electronic signatures, the conversion of documents, e-government and electronic legal activity in general. At the same time he was involved in the creation of civil and criminal justice law.

He is the author or co-author of the following books: Computer Law (1995), Internet a paragraphs (1999 a 2001), Information and Telecommunication Systems Law (2001 a 2004), Risk Management in Firms and Other Organizations (2003, 2006, 2009 and 2013) and E-government in the Czech Republic. Legal and Technological Aspects (2012). In the year 2015, his most significant work was published, Cybernetic Criminality.

He has written many interdisciplinary articles regarding IT security, law and criminalistics and has contributed publications to international conferences. He has been extensively quoted, at the present time there are more than 450 citations, 55 of which are registered on the Web of Science and SCOPUS.
